Customer Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern the provision of services by HandiMentor to you, the customer. By booking a session with HandiMentor, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Booking and Payment
1.1. Booking Request: All booking requests are subject to availability of HandiMentors and are not confirmed until you receive a formal booking confirmation email from HandiMentor.
1.2. Quote & Confirmation: Following your booking request, we will provide you with a personalised quote for the mentoring session and any required materials. Your booking will only be confirmed once you have formally accepted this quote.
1.3. Payment Process: Once you have accepted our quote, we will send you a secure payment link via email. Payment for the agreed total amount (including mentoring fees and any material costs) must be made via this link prior to your session.
1.4. Pricing: Our pricing structure is detailed in our Pricing Policy. All prices are in Pounds Sterling (£GBP).
2. Cancellations and Rescheduling
2.1. Notice Period: A minimum of 72 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule a confirmed mentoring session without charge.
2.2. Late Cancellations (48-72 hours): If you cancel or reschedule a session with less than 72 hours but more than 48 hours' notice, a 50% cancellation fee of the mentoring service total will be due. An invoice for this fee will be sent to you.
2.3. Late Cancellations (within 48 hours): If you cancel or reschedule a session with less than 48 hours' notice, the full mentoring service fee will be non-refundable and due. An invoice for this full fee will be sent to you.
2.4. Material Costs: If materials have already been sourced or purchased by HandiMentor prior to any cancellation, the customer will be invoiced for the full cost of these materials, regardless of the notice period given.
2.5. Cooling-Off Period: For bookings made online or over the phone (distance contracts), you generally have a 14-day "cooling-off" period under UK consumer law. However, by accepting these terms and requesting the service to commence within this period, you acknowledge that if you cancel after the service has begun (i.e., after the mentor has commenced travel or the session has started), you will be liable for any services already provided on a pro-rata basis, as per sections 2.2-2.4.
2.6. Mentor Cancellation: In the unlikely event that HandiMentor needs to cancel a session (e.g., due to mentor illness), we will notify you as soon as possible and offer to reschedule at no additional cost or provide a full refund if rescheduling is not possible or desired.
3. Session Environment and Safety
3.1. Safe Working Environment: It is the customer's responsibility to ensure a safe, tidy, and appropriate working environment for the HandiMentor during the session. This includes ensuring adequate lighting, clear working space, and no immediate hazards.
3.2. Mentor's Discretion: HandiMentors reserve the right to decline to proceed with a session if, in their professional judgment, the working environment is deemed unsafe or unsuitable, or if performing the requested tasks would pose an unreasonable risk to the mentor or property. In such cases, the full mentoring session fee may still be charged, subject to reasonable discretion by HandiMentor.
4. Liability and Outcomes
4.1. Mentoring Service: HandiMentor provides instruction, guidance, and demonstration of practical DIY skills. Our aim is to empower you with the knowledge and confidence to undertake tasks safely and effectively.
4.2. Customer Responsibility: All DIY tasks, materials selection, and work undertaken after or during a session are ultimately at the customer's own discretion and responsibility. HandiMentor is a teaching service and does not undertake or warrant the actual completion of work on your property.
4.3. No Guarantee of Outcome: While we strive for positive learning outcomes, HandiMentor cannot guarantee the perfect completion of any DIY project by the customer, nor can we be held liable for any defects, damage, or unsatisfactory results arising from work performed by the customer using skills learned during a session.
4.4. Limitation of Liability: HandiMentor's liability for any direct loss or damage arising from our services is limited to the total fees paid by you for the specific session in question. We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or economic loss, nor for any loss of profit, business, or anticipated savings.
4.5. Mentor Insurance & Liability: HandiMentor operates as a platform connecting customers with independent HandiMentors. While we expect all HandiMentors to carry their own appropriate public liability insurance for the advice and guidance they provide, HandiMentor does not hold insurance on behalf of individual mentors and is not liable for any claims arising from the actions or omissions of a HandiMentor during a session, including those related to property damage or personal injury. It is the customer's responsibility to satisfy themselves regarding the mentor's insurance coverage if this is a specific concern.
5. General
5.1. Intellectual Property: All teaching materials and content provided by HandiMentor are for your personal learning use and remain the intellectual property of HandiMentor.
5.2. Governing Law: These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
