-
HandiMentor is a DIY mentoring platform that connects you with experienced, friendly handypeople who teach you how to tackle household repairs and improvements yourself. We offer one-to-one, in-person mentoring sessions to support you in gaining practical, lifelong skills.
-
HandiMentor is for anyone who wants to feel more confident doing things around the home. Whether you're a renter, first-time homeowner, or someone who's never touched a power tool before, we're here to help. We welcome people of all experience levels, and many of our customers are women and individuals from underrepresented communities looking to build their DIY skills in a supportive, inclusive environment.
-
Our mentors can guide you through a wide range of common household jobs, including:
Fixing a leaky tap or running toilet
Hanging shelves or fitting blinds
Painting walls or sanding wood
Furniture assembly and basic carpentry
Learning to use power tools safely
Decorative projects (like wall hooks or picture hanging)
Identifying issues and planning for larger home improvements
-
Your mentor will arrive with the tools needed for your task. We also provide you with the option to use your own tools if you prefer. They’ll work with you step by step, at your pace, offering hands-on support, practical tips, and clear explanations. You’ll leave each session with new skills, increased confidence, and a list of tool recommendations to help you continue your DIY journey.
-
HandiMentor is about learning, not outsourcing. If you’re looking for someone to complete a task without your involvement, we may not be the right fit. That said, our mentors can help you plan, troubleshoot, or gain a second opinion before hiring someone else - giving you the tools to make informed choices and avoid unnecessary costs.
-
We believe in fair, transparent pricing - no hidden fees, no surprises.
Our in-person DIY mentoring sessions start from just £65 per hour. For longer sessions you’ll benefit from discounted rates:
£65 per hour for 2 hours (£130 total)
£60 per hour for 3 hours (£180 total)
£55 per hour for 4+ hours (e.g., £220 for 4 hours)
You'll always receive a personalised quote upfront based on your specific job so you know the cost before we even begin.
If your project runs a little over or you’d like to extend your session on the day, no problem - we’ll only charge for the extra time with your approval, and that will only be confirmed after the session.
Need us to bring materials like paint, wood, or tools? Just let us know ahead of time - materials we supply will be added to your final cost, and we’ll always keep you in the loop so there are no surprises.
We’re here to help you get it done - no stress, no pressure.

Our HandiMentors are skilled, experienced tradespeople with a passion for teaching. Each one is personally vetted by us and chosen for their clear communication, patience, and people skills, as well as their technical know-how.
-
At HandiMentor, we take great care in selecting experienced and trustworthy mentors to support you with your DIY projects. Every mentor goes through a thorough vetting process before joining our platform, which includes:
Verifying their address and identity
Confirming they hold valid public liability insurance
Reviewing customer feedback and examples of past work
A thorough video or phone interview so we can get to know them and ensure they’re a great fit for mentoring
We do all this so you can feel confident that your mentor knows their stuff - and genuinely wants to help you learn.
-
Nope - your mentor will bring the tools needed for the job.
That said, if you’d prefer we use your tools, we’re more than happy to work with what you’ve got. It’s a great way to get more comfortable using your own equipment!
If you're booking a video consultation, we’ll ask in advance what tools you have so we can tailor our advice to match.
After each session, we’ll also give you a personalised starter kit recommendation if you’re looking to build up your own toolkit over time.
-
We want you to feel comfortable and supported. If you’re not happy with any part of your session, please let us know and we’ll do our best to resolve the issue and ensure you’re looked after.
-
Yes. We ask for at least 72 hours notice to reschedule or cancel and offer a full refund within that window.
If you cancel or reschedule a session with less than 72 hours notice, a 50% cancellation fee of the mentoring service total will be due.
Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice may not be refunded.
-
Our HandiMentors carry public liability insurance and are covered while working with you. Safety is a priority for us, and our mentors are trained to ensure sessions are safe, supportive, and low risk.
-
After your session, you’ll receive a quick feedback form. We love hearing what went well - and what we can do better. Your input is hugely valuable and helps us grow and improve.
-
Currently, all our sessions are one-to-one so we can give you focused, personalised support. However, friends, partners or flatmates are always welcome to join in - just let us know in advance so your HandiMentor knows!
-
