Learn it. Fix it. Love your home.

We are on a mission to demystify DIY - to make it less anxiety inducing and more empowering.

Why HandiMentor?

At HandiMentor, we believe everyone deserves to feel capable in their own home.

We know the pain of hidden fees, unclear advice, and the sense of helplessness when something goes wrong. That’s why we offer simple, affordable ways to learn rather than just outsource.

We don’t just fix - we guide, mentor and empower. You stay in control and gain confidence every step of the way.

Our Social and Environmental Mission

We’re not just about home fixes we’re about community change. HandiMentor champions:

  • Inclusive mentoring and diverse trades representation

  • Repair culture to fight throwaway habits

  • Confidence building through skill sharing

  • Every session supports local mentors and promotes hands-on learning that benefits both people and planet.

Meet the Founders

HandiMentor was founded by Jas Kaur and Max Gray.

The idea was sparked by a simple but powerful experience: the moment Jas realised she could tackle DIY with the right support.

When Jas and Max bought their first flat in London, money was tight, and the to-do list was long. Hiring a tradesperson for every little job just wasn't possible. Luckily, Max had grown up learning practical skills from his late father, a skilled carpenter. With decades of experience under his belt and having pivoted from the documentary film world to be a tradesperson, he naturally stepped into the role of mentor.

For Jas, it was new territory. DIY felt intimidating, like something you had to grow up with. But Max didn’t just fix things, he taught. With kindness, patience, and encouragement, he showed her how to use tools, take on projects, and build confidence with every screw, shelf, and repair.

That shift, from hesitation to empowerment, was the catalyst for HandiMentor. They saw how many people, especially women and renters, felt left out of traditional trades services. Sometimes, you don’t need someone to take over, you just need someone to show you how.

HandiMentor is on a mission to demystify DIY - to make it less anxiety-inducing, and more empowering. Whether it’s hanging a shelf for the first time or learning how to fix that thing you’ve been avoiding, we’re here to help build confidence, one project at a time.
